The global spot price is quoted in US Dollars per Ounce. In Egypt, the local price is determined by multiplying the global spot price by the "Sagha USD" rate (which can differ from the bank rate) and then converting it to grams. Local supply and demand also play a massive role in setting the domestic premium.
The "Sagha USD" is a shadow exchange rate derived from the price of gold in the local market compared to its global price. It represents the value at which gold merchants are currently pricing their inventory to hedge against currency fluctuations.
For investment purposes, 24K bullion bars or sovereign coins are always superior. Jewelry includes "Masnaia" (making fees) that you cannot recover when reselling. Bullion has minimal fees and higher liquidity.
While we cannot provide financial advice, gold is traditionally a long-term hedge against inflation. Successful investors often use "Dollar Cost Averaging," which means buying smaller amounts consistently over time rather than trying to time the perfect market bottom.
